French President Emmanuel Macron announced an investment of €109 billion (approximately $112 billion) in the artificial intelligence sector during the AI Summit held in France. Macron stated that this investment is France's response to the U.S. "Stargate" project. While the U.S. plans a $500 billion investment through "Stargate," Macron pointed out that, considering France's population is five times smaller than that of the U.S., the investment is proportionally equivalent.
The investments will primarily be directed towards the establishment of new AI-focused data centers. Macron also mentioned that French AI companies such as Mistral, Owkin, and Wandercraft have moved to the U.S., but emphasized that Europe remains competitive in the field. Mistral's CEO, Arthur Mensch, revealed plans to build a new AI center in Paris.
Macron highlighted that France produces a significant amount of clean energy, particularly from nuclear power, making it an ideal location to attract foreign investments. In 2024, France exported 90 TWh of electricity to neighboring countries, which will be used to support the attraction of investments.
