The platform may resemble Wikipedia at first glance, but in some cases, it directly sources information from it.
The Grokipedia website is already live and, according to its own data, hosts over 885,000 articles. For comparison, Business Insider notes that English Wikipedia contains over 7 million articles. The site’s main page features a single search bar, and once a query is entered, the algorithm suggests possible options.
After confirming a search, the system presents several article options to read. Unlike Wikipedia, Grokipedia articles do not include images, and users cannot directly edit content, although they can see whether suggested changes have been made.
The information in the articles is generated by neural networks. The New York Times (NYT) speculates that Grokipedia is powered by the same AI model used by the Grok chatbot. NYT also notes that technical issues occasionally occur, leading to errors in the text. The Verge reports that some articles include notes indicating that Grok has “verified for accuracy”. Additionally, some content, such as the article on the PlayStation 5, appears to be identical to Wikipedia entries.
Elon Musk first announced the creation of Grokipedia in early October 2025. This new platform marks a significant step in the expansion of AI-based services as an alternative to traditional encyclopedias for information search.
