Microsoft Introduces “Mico,” Virtual Assistant for Copilot

Microsoft has announced the launch of Mico, a new virtual assistant designed for the voice mode of Copilot. According to The Verge, this animated, globe-shaped character reacts to what users say. After several months of testing, Microsoft is now enabling Mico in Copilot’s voice mode, with users having the option to deactivate the assistant at any time.

The company explains that Mico displays “live emotions” during interactions, changing its facial expressions based on the conversation’s context. Initially, Mico will be available only to users in the U.S., U.K., and Canada. Leveraging Copilot’s memory feature, Mico can remember user information and tasks to provide a more personalized and interactive experience.

Microsoft has also introduced the “Learn Live” mode, which turns Mico into an interactive tutor. Instead of giving direct answers, Mico guides users to independently understand concepts using interactive boards and visual cues. The introduction of Mico aligns with Microsoft’s strategy of creating a consistent, recognizable personality for Copilot. Mustafa Suleyman, Microsoft’s AI chief, previously stated that Copilot will have a stable identity and ongoing presence.
