According to the company's official blog post, OpenAI has secured a $40 billion investment, bringing its total valuation to $300 billion. CNBC reports that the funding round was led by SoftBank, with continued financial support from previous investors such as Microsoft, Coatue, Altimeter, and Thrive.
In its statement, OpenAI said: "This new funding enables us to further advance AI research, expand our computing infrastructure, and deliver even more powerful tools to the 500 million people using ChatGPT every week. We are excited to partner with SoftBank Group, as they have extensive experience in scaling transformative technologies."
According to a source cited by CNBC, approximately $18 billion of this investment will be allocated to OpenAI’s Stargate project, which aims to establish AI data centers across various regions in the United States.
