OpenAI plans to open its first office in South Korea and establish a legal entity to meet the growing demand for ChatGPT in the country.
According to OpenAI, South Korea has the second-largest number of ChatGPT subscribers after the United States. The company has also started hiring staff to support local partnerships and plans to announce further details in the coming months.
OpenAI’s Chief Strategy Officer, Jason Kwon, stated, "Korea’s full-stack AI ecosystem, from silicon to software and students to seniors, makes it one of the most promising markets in the world for meaningful AI impact."
Earlier this year, OpenAI announced it would develop AI products for South Korea in collaboration with chat app operator Kakao.
Jason Kwon is scheduled to meet with officials from the main opposition Democratic Party and the ruling People Power Party in Seoul.
