PowerPoint co-creator Dennis Austin passes away at 76

In 1987, the first version of the program was created. The creator of PowerPoint, Dennis Austin, passed away at the age of 76. He prepared the first version of the program in 1987. Austin died from lung cancer with brain metastasis on September 1, 2023. Dennis's son, Michael, spoke to The Washington Post about his death. The idea for PowerPoint came from Bob Gaskins, who worked at Forethought. Dennis Austin was the first developer to work on the program, and later, Tomas Rudkin joined him. Initially, the program was prepared under the name "Presenter," but the company couldn't register it, so the team suggested another name - PowerPoint. The first version was released in 1987, specifically designed for Macintosh computers. Three months later, Microsoft acquired Forethought for $14 million. PowerPoint later became part of the Office program package alongside Word and Excel.
