The incident that happened in Lebanon the other day caused resonance all over the world. So all pager users' devices exploded at the same time. Various allegations were made regarding the issue. Pagers came up again.
What is a pager?
A pager is a messaging device used in a time when cell phones were not common. Messages are transmitted to it from the radio transmitter of the paging network. To send a message or letter to a pager, it is usually necessary to dial the operator's phone number, give the subscriber's number or name, and dictate the message. These devices are considered more reliable than mobile phones in terms of tracking.
The Motorola Teletrim is actually a digital pager that was widely used in the 1990s. This device allows users to receive short text or digital messages. Pagers were an important means of communication in a time when cell phones were not yet widespread. It is still used in third world countries.
Cyber attack or physical intrusion?
Many versions of yesterday's incident have been voiced. Some people believe that the main reason for the explosion is a cyber attack. So, they report that 3rd parties remotely tampered with the device and artificially heated the battery of the device, resulting in an explosion. Experts do not agree with this idea. They think that there is physical interference with the devices.
Why physical intervention?
These pagers run on daily use AA 1.5v or AAA batteries. These batteries require high voltage, unusual conditions, or overcharging to ignite or explode. It is not possible for this to happen in these small pagers.
Experts point out that the devices cannot explode without external intervention, because they only work with a single AA 1.5v or AAA battery. It does not contain other explosive and flammable substances. This means that explosives have been placed in the devices. Or batteries may be included if they came with the product.
No official investigation results have been released yet.
