55 companies have joined the Oil and Gas Carbon Emission Reduction Charter, committing to zero methane emissions by 2030 and net zero emissions by 2050.
President of COP28, Sultan Ahmed Al-Jabir, said this at the opening ceremony of the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Agreement on Climate Change (COP29).
He said that this initiative is aimed at real results. "Participants from China, India, Russia, USA, European Union and Gulf countries are active in this matter. This is the most impressive private sector partnership to reduce carbon emissions ever, and we look forward to more companies joining this important initiative. "If all sectors work together, we can strengthen economies and reduce emissions."
The COP28 President noted continued calls for public and private sector resources and financing to be more accessible and affordable.
