Technical support for Belkin Wemo devices is being discontinued

Belkin has announced that starting January 31, 2026, it will discontinue technical support for its Wemo smart home devices and the mobile app used to control them. This decision has disappointed many users, as it affects a wide range of products including smart light switches, plugs, baby monitors, kitchen and heating appliances, air purifiers, and other smart devices.

In a letter sent to customers, the company explained that this decision was not made lightly, but Belkin has decided to shift its resources to other areas. Since 2011, Wemo has provided users with convenient and innovative smart home solutions. However, due to rapid technological advancements, the company is now focusing on different sectors.

According to the announcement:

  • After January 31, 2026, the Wemo app will no longer function.
  • Cloud-based device management, remote control, and voice command features will be discontinued.
  • Technical support, software updates, and troubleshooting assistance will no longer be provided.

However, devices configured for Apple HomeKit will continue to work since they do not rely on cloud services. Additionally, partial refunds may be offered for devices still under warranty.

This situation highlights the critical importance of support policies for users relying on smart home technology. The mass discontinuation of support by technology giants like Belkin can directly impact users' daily lives and may encourage more careful consideration when purchasing smart devices in the future.
