For years, one of the most requested features by Notion users has been the ability to work offline. Until now, Notion’s cloud-based design meant users couldn’t accomplish much without an internet connection. This latest update solves that problem.
Now, users can view, edit, and create notes without an internet connection on both desktop and mobile apps. Pages can also be downloaded for offline access, and once the device reconnects to the internet, all changes are automatically synced.
However, some features will not work offline. For example, embeds, forms, and buttons will remain inactive without an internet connection.
Additionally, for users subscribed to Notion’s Plus, Business, or Enterprise plans, the app will automatically download recently viewed and favorite pages, making them ready for offline use. Users can disable automatic downloads or manage them via the new “Offline” menu in the settings.
Notion CEO Ivan Zhao explained that offline support had taken years to implement because the app uses a complex database to store different content blocks. Moreover, the company had to build a conflict resolution system to handle cases where multiple users make changes to the same document while offline.
With this update, Notion users can now continue their work, manage notes, and capture creative ideas without an internet connection. This feature is particularly useful for travelers, remote workers, and anyone with limited internet access.
