Temu has closed more than 16,000 retailers

Temu has expanded its intellectual property protection program to include 15,000 brands, a three-fold increase from the previous year.

According to the company’s 2026 Intellectual Property Protection Report, more than 40% of new sellers who tried to join the platform last year were rejected for failing to pass identity verification. In addition, more than 16,000 seller stores were closed for repeated intellectual property violations.

Temu says that products posted on the platform are automatically checked against a database of millions of images and keywords, both before and after publication. The goal is to detect counterfeit products and copyright-infringing ads in a timely manner.

The update comes as Temu faces increasing regulatory pressure in Europe. In July 2025, the European Commission said that the company was not doing enough to prevent illegal products on its platform under the Digital Services Act (DSA). If this violation is confirmed, Temu could face a fine of up to 6% of its annual global turnover.
