The launch date for the Azerbaijan-Kazakhstan fiber-optic cable line has been announced.

The Trans-Caspian fiber-optic cable line connecting Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan is expected to become operational in less than a month.

Mikayil Jabbarov, Azerbaijan's Minister of Economy, announced this at the "CAMCA 2026" Regional Forum held in Baku.

"The launch of the fiber-optic cable line between Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan will create a new high-capacity communication channel linking Europe and Asia. The line is expected to go into operation in less than a month," he stated.

The minister emphasized that modern regional corridors encompass not only freight transportation but also energy and digital connectivity.

It is worth noting that under the Trans-Caspian fiber-optic cable line project—implemented by AzerTelecom and Kazakhtelecom—a 380-kilometer subsea fiber-optic cable line has been laid from the city of Sumgayit (Azerbaijan) to the city of Aktau (Kazakhstan).

This first subsea digital route across the Caspian Sea will facilitate high-speed internet connectivity exceeding 400 terabits per second and large-scale data exchange in the region, while also contributing to the development of digital services. The Trans-Caspian Fiber-Optic Cable Line is a key component of the "Digital Silk Way" project. As the most optimal and shortest route—offering high bandwidth and minimal latency for data transmission—the "Digital Silk Way" digital telecommunications corridor, which will span Azerbaijan, Georgia, Turkey, Kazakhstan, and Bulgaria, will foster regional cooperation and sustainable development among these countries.
