US President Donald Trump has shared a screenshot of his fake Wikipedia page on the social network Truth Social. In the image, Trump is presented as the “Acting President of Venezuela”.
The post was made on Sunday and is seen as a satirical joke in light of the recent political events in Venezuela. Trump was mocking the country’s interim president, Delcy Rodríguez.
It should be noted that former Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro was detained last week in a raid by US forces in Caracas along with his wife Cilia Flores and taken to New York. He was brought to trial in Manhattan on charges of narcoterrorism, but has denied the charges and said he still considers himself the legitimate leader of Venezuela.
After the raid, Donald Trump made a statement in the presence of senior cabinet members, stating that Washington would play a role in governing the country until free and fair presidential elections are held in Venezuela.
According to media reports, the resulting power vacuum will be temporarily filled by a small committee headed by US Secretary of State Marco Rubio. The committee also includes the Secretary of Defense, the Chief of Staff, the Director of the CIA and several other senior officials.
Delcy Rodríguez was recommended to cooperate with this committee. Trump later said that due to Rodríguez's agreement to cooperate, he stopped the planned second wave of attacks on Venezuela.
Meanwhile, Trump discussed the management of Venezuela's natural resources with the heads of leading US oil companies. ExxonMobil CEO Darren Woods called Venezuela "unsuitable for investment" in the current conditions.
This statement caused discontent from Trump. He told reporters on Air Force One that ExxonMobil could be kept out of Venezuela.
The president also threatened Cuba. He said that Cuba would no longer receive financial and oil support from Venezuela and jokingly suggested that Marco Rubio could be the next Cuban leader.
Marco Rubio, in an appearance on NBC, stressed that the United States has a tough stance against the Cuban regime and that Havana has played an important role in keeping Maduro in power.
