Gen Z has the power to use mobile apps. This generation, known as the “mobile-first generation,” makes up about 40% of all mobile users worldwide. We reached out to app data company Appfigures to find out their picks and examine the 50 most downloaded apps by Gen Z this year.
Due to privacy regulations, we were unable to access the information of users between the ages of 13 and 17. The company only shared download statistics for users between the ages of 18 and 24, and since the data is only for US users, it doesn't reflect the full picture. Nevertheless, this information gives an idea of the preferences of the older segment of the generation.

The Temu app has become the most downloaded app since the beginning of the year. It is an online marketplace that offers a wide variety of products at affordable prices. Members of Gen Z have downloaded the app 41.98 million times, indicating that affordable prices are attractive to this group. Temu uses coupons, giveaways and other gamification strategies to motivate users.
Temu's rival, Shein, got 14.68 million downloads. This number may indicate that Gen Z already pre-loaded this app.
In second place comes TikTok, with 33.23 million downloads. Users between the ages of 18-24 prefer TikTok for short and snappy content, and the app is also used as a search engine to rival Google.
YouTube remains popular among Gen Z youth and has a significant user base with 14.03 million downloads in 10 months. This generation is also interested in a new app in the short drama genre called **ShortMax**. This application has been downloaded 10 million times this year.
Meta company's apps are also heavily downloaded by Gen Z youth. Threads was downloaded 32.32 million times, WhatsApp 28.42 million, Instagram 26.29 million, and Facebook 20.58 million.
Google also had 17.65 million downloads this year, while Chrome and Meet had 10.19 million and 9.63 million downloads, respectively. Google Drive was downloaded 7.22 million times, and Google Photos was downloaded 6.79 million times.
The ChatGPT application is widely used among young people aged 18-24, and has been downloaded 24.63 million times. As a portion of this age group prepares to study or start work, ChatGPT serves their educational and career goals.
Photo sharing and social media applications are also an integral part of their daily lives. CapCut video editing app has gained wide popularity among this age group with 21.72 million downloads.
Other favorite Gen Z apps include Snapchat 19.16 million, Telegram 13.12 million, Pinterest 8.23 million, Reddit 8.06 million, and X 7.58 million.
Netflix is the most used streaming service among 18-24 year olds, with 15.67 million downloads. It has been downloaded 12.86 million and 11.68 million times on Prime Video and Disney+ respectively.
Finally, among payment apps, PayPal was downloaded 13.92 million times, Venmo was downloaded 7.8 million times, and Cash App was downloaded 6.9 million times. These apps are popular among the youth for shopping, sharing payments and sending tips.
