WhatsApp messenger is developing a cross-platform file sharing feature.
The Nearby Share feature will allow you to share files between Android and iOS users without an internet connection. The Android version of the messenger itself will be able to find nearby devices for exchange. iPhone users will need to scan a QR code to activate the feature.
This feature is already implemented in the latest beta versions of WhatsApp for iOS and Android.
It is still in the early stages of development, so it may change eventually. The release date for Nearby Share is unknown.
