YouTube launches voluntary severance program with compensation

YouTube has launched a voluntary redundancy program in exchange for compensation instead of direct layoffs. The program aims to support employees to leave the company and “seek new opportunities and challenges.”

The initiative is a continuation of a program that Google — YouTube’s parent company — has been implementing since early 2025. Note that in April, Google parted ways with hundreds of employees in its Android and Pixel divisions.

According to Business Insider, although the exact amount of compensation offered by YouTube was not disclosed, the program will be offered to employees who want to leave voluntarily.

In addition, the company will conduct an internal restructuring and divide its activities into three main teams:

The Subscription Products team, which will be responsible for paid services,

The Viewer Products team, which will improve the viewing experience on the platform,

The Creator Products team, which will focus on working with content creators.

YouTube CEO Neil Mohan described these changes as a step towards the company’s “adaptation to an artificial intelligence-based future.”
