Amazon, the world’s largest online retailer, plans to replace 600,000 of its workers with robotic technologies. The move aims to reduce operational costs and make logistical processes faster and more efficient.
According to company representatives, robots will handle routine tasks in warehouses, such as product picking and packaging, while human employees will focus on more complex and management-intensive roles. By 2027, approximately 160,000 positions are expected to be eliminated. The plan is projected to save Amazon $12.6 billion between 2025 and 2027, and reduce shipping costs by around 30 cents per item.
Amazon spokesperson Kelli Nantel stated that the documents reflect only an internal team’s perspective, not the company’s overall policy. She emphasized that Amazon continues to actively hire in the U.S., planning to create 250,000 seasonal positions by the end of the year.
Experts note that this initiative is a striking example of the growing impact of technology on the workforce and the rapid spread of automation.
Amazon’s plan is being closely watched by both employees and industry analysts, as it could set a trend for other major retail companies in the future.
