Apple has announced a new investment plan to expand its renewable energy projects in India. The company said on May 7 that it will invest an initial 1 billion rupees, or about $10.5 million, in partnership with Indian energy company CleanMax.
The project is expected to create more than 150 megawatts of new renewable energy capacity in India. Apple has previously partnered with CleanMax on rooftop solar projects that power its offices and retail stores.
The company also announced that it is supporting waste management and recycling projects with WWF-India. In addition, Apple is funding six early-stage startups working in green technology in partnership with impact investor Acumen.
