Apple has agreed to pay $250 million in a class-action lawsuit over delays in promised artificial intelligence features for its Siri voice assistant. The lawsuit was filed on behalf of users who bought iPhone 16 and some iPhone 15 models in the United States.
The plaintiffs said that while Apple advertised artificial intelligence features it announced in 2024, those features were neither available at the time nor are they currently available. Court documents state that the company misled customers by promoting technologies that did not actually exist.
Apple earlier this year opted to partner with Google to develop artificial intelligence services for the iPhone. The company has not introduced its own advanced artificial intelligence model for Siri, although it will begin integrating ChatGPT in 2024. If the settlement is approved by the court, eligible iPhone users will be able to receive a share of the compensation.
