Apple has achieved a historic milestone with the strong demand for its new iPhone 17 models, surpassing Samsung to become the world’s largest smartphone manufacturer. This marks the first time since 2011 that Apple has taken the top spot in annual sales. According to Counterpoint Research, Apple’s sales grew by 10% in 2025, capturing 19.4% of the global market, while Samsung saw only a modest increase, maintaining an 18.7% market share and falling to second place.
Experts note that the surge is not solely due to new models. Many consumers who purchased phones during the pandemic are now upgrading their devices, significantly boosting sales. The new, slim-designed iPhone 17 Air has been particularly well received by buyers.
It appears Apple is not planning to give up this advantage easily. The company is expected to release a more affordable iPhone 17e model next year, along with its long-awaited foldable phone. These plans suggest that Apple is likely to remain the market leader at least until 2029.
