NVIDIA Invests $500 Million in UK Startup ‘Wayve’

NVIDIA is planning a major investment in the UK-based artificial intelligence car startup Wayve. Jensen Huang announced that the company will allocate £2 billion (approximately $2.6 billion) to support the development of AI in the UK. Out of this, $500 million will go toward Wayve’s next funding round.

Founded in 2017, Wayve applies a unique approach to self-driving car systems. Unlike rule-based methods, its technology is built on a self-learning model. This means the system learns how to drive from real-world data rather than relying on pre-programmed rules. As a result, it does not require high-definition maps and can operate effectively with existing sensors such as cameras and radars, reducing costs for manufacturers.

Wayve plans to commercialize this innovative technology by selling it to automakers and other technology companies.

The startup already works closely with NVIDIA. Its second-generation self-driving platform uses NVIDIA GPUs, while the newly introduced third-generation platform will be powered by NVIDIA’s Drive AGX Thor hardware. This will enable Wayve to develop fully autonomous, top-level vehicles.

During a test ride in one of Wayve’s cars on the streets of London, Jensen Huang described the startup as a “next trillion-dollar company,” underlining NVIDIA’s strong confidence in Wayve’s future.
