OpenAI has introduced a new tool on the ChatGPT platform that expands users’ ability to search for and compare products. Available to both subscribers and free users, this feature aims to make the shopping process more efficient. When a shopping-related query is entered or the relevant function is selected from the menu, the system activates automatically. The bot asks clarifying questions about budget, technical specifications, and other criteria to fully understand the user’s needs.
The system then performs a broad search online to gather up-to-date information. Powered by a GPT-5 mini model specially optimized for shopping tasks, it delivers a detailed report within minutes, highlighting the most suitable options, differences between products, and vendor information. Users can evaluate the suggested options, and if the memory function is enabled, the system also considers choices from previous conversations.
Currently, completing a purchase requires visiting the relevant seller’s website, but in the future, OpenAI plans to enable direct payments within the chat through the Instant Checkout program. Activated on November 24, 2025, this feature is offered without limits for all plans during the holiday period. The company advises users to verify results with sellers, as the system may occasionally make errors.
