The company stated that this free access is valid for a “limited time,” but it has not clarified how long it will last.
Currently, users from the US, Canada, Japan, and South Korea can freely access Sora on both its iOS app and website. OpenAI notes that this feature is being gradually rolled out. Social media comments also indicate that the opportunity is not yet available to all users.
At the same time, the app’s availability is expanding. In addition to the US, Sora can now be downloaded from the App Store in Thailand, Vietnam, and Taiwan.
OpenAI has also introduced two significant new features. First, the Cameo function can now recognize not only people but also “favorite” characters—pets, toys, and even various objects.
To do this, users can record a short video of the object (or create it directly in Sora). The neural network memorizes the character, allowing users to generate new videos featuring that character through text prompts.
Finally, the company has introduced an automatic montage feature. Users can now select multiple personal videos of the same character or “remixes” created by others and easily combine them into a single video. OpenAI promises to expand editing capabilities even further in the future.
