Spotify updates lyrics feature: offline access and more translations

Spotify has announced a number of updates to its built-in lyrics feature. According to the company, users will now be able to view lyrics offline, and the translation feature will also be available globally.

Under the new changes, lyrics will be placed more prominently in the app — below album art or a short video that plays alongside the music. Spotify says user testing has shown increased interest in the feature after the change.

The offline lyrics feature will be available only to Premium subscribers, and the move is intended to encourage free users to subscribe. In addition, the lyric preview feature, called “lyric preview,” will be gradually rolled out to both free and paid users on iOS and Android devices.

The lyric translation feature, which was first launched in 2022, will now be active in all countries. The translations will be displayed in accordance with the user’s device language.

Note that Spotify has faced licensing issues for many years with integrating lyrics into the app. The platform only made real-time lyrics available to global users in 2021.
