Threads is becoming a podcast platform

Meta’s X competitor, Threads, will now focus on a specific group of creators — podcasters. The company says the goal is to increase the conversation around podcasts and help creators promote their shows.

As part of the new features, podcast links will appear more distinct and prominent in the feed — with colorful backgrounds and image thumbnails so users can easily spot them. Creators will also get a separate section on their profiles to post podcast links. Threads says these links will allow podcasters to grow their audience and better promote their shows.

In the future, these features will be followed by additional features for podcasters and their listeners. Meta says the goal is to make Threads the primary place for conversations about shows. While these conversations currently occur on social media platforms like Reddit, X, Facebook, Instagram, and podcast streaming platforms like YouTube and Spotify, Threads wants to unify that space.

Threads won’t be a podcast streaming platform; The focus is on helping podcast hosts connect with their audience through discussions and analytics, as well as making it easier for listeners to discover new podcasts. Meta has announced that additional features focused on podcast discussions will be introduced in the coming months.

It should be noted that Threads has previously tried to differentiate itself from other social networks by targeting creators: in May, creators were able to add up to 5 links to their profiles and share long texts. With the new podcast features, the platform aims to help creators further promote their shows and increase engagement with listeners.
