Uber has further strengthened its claim in the Turkish market by signing a large-scale agreement with Mubadala to acquire Getir's delivery operations. As part of this deal, which is pending regulatory approval, Getir's four main operations, including food, grocery, bazaar and water delivery, will be incorporated into Uber.
It should be noted that Uber acquired Trendyol Go last year for approximately $ 1 billion. Now, with the approval of the Getir deal, the aim is to create a huge ecosystem where the two companies are united under the same umbrella.
According to the official press release, users will gain access to Trendyol Go's extensive restaurant network through the Getir application, while Trendyol Go users will be able to easily benefit from Getir's grocery and water delivery services. This synergy is expected to both increase operational efficiency and provide consumers with a more comprehensive and fast digital experience.
Sharing his thoughts on the subject, Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi emphasized that Turkey is a priority market for them with its dynamic population adapting to technology. Khosrowshahi said the investment would create more opportunities for local businesses and couriers in Turkey, underlining Uber's long-term growth strategy in the region.
Mubadala officials said they were proud of the success of Getir, the leading platform it has built in Turkey. It was noted that the sale once again proves Turkey's investment attractiveness and the value of local startups on a global scale. On the other hand, it was announced that units such as BiTaksi and Getir Finans will be kept outside the scope of this acquisition and will continue to operate with their existing structures.
