The president of Xiaomi, Lu Weibing, has stated that a significant increase in smartphone prices is expected in 2026. According to Reuters, the company official linked this rise to the rapid development of the artificial intelligence industry and changes in demand for memory chips.
Weibing explained that as global technology giants expand data centers designed for AI, the need for high-performance memory modules is increasing. As a result, Samsung and other major manufacturers are focusing on more expensive and scarce HBM (High Bandwidth Memory) rather than standard smartphone memory. This shift in production capacity raises the cost of smartphone components.
The company leader also attributed the high price of the new Redmi K90 series to these factors. Notably, Xiaomi shipped 43.3 million smartphones in the third quarter, maintaining its third-place position in the global market with a 13.6% share.
