London-based AI startup Wayve is one of the most notable startups developing technology for self-driving cars. Founded in 2017, the startup is in talks for a new round of funding after a previous investment round involving Microsoft and Japan’s SoftBank. According to reports, Wayve could be valued at around $8 billion, and the startup is looking to raise between $1 billion and $2 billion.
Wayve’s goal is to develop AI navigation systems that can work with cheaper sensors and off-the-shelf hardware, unlike its competitors. The startup has been developing the technology with Nvidia’s robotics technology since 2018.
It recently signed a partnership agreement with Japanese automaker Nissan to implement Wayve’s technology; according to the agreement, Wayve’s software will be installed in Nissan cars from 2027. CEO Alex Kendall said that investor interest has increased dramatically in the past year, and while the startup is already well-funded, growing market demand has led to attracting new investments.
