The blocking of the t.me domain used by Telegram by the operator of the .me domain zone has affected the operation of a number of services globally.
As a result of the blocking, links starting with https://t.me do not open in Internet browsers. The fact that links still work for some users is only due to the failure to update the DNS cache.
Sites using the Telegram comment system have also been affected by the problem. Comments are not loaded on these platforms, and business widgets and quick contact buttons that allow you to communicate via Telegram have also stopped working.
At the same time, the Telegram application itself continues to work normally. Links within the messenger open and users can use them without problems.
After the problem, the Telegram team promptly changed the link format from t.me to the telegram.me domain. Although this change allows links to be opened again in browsers, some content is not fully loaded because it is still linked to the old domain.
The reason for the blocking has not yet been disclosed. The .me domain zone is managed by doMEn, a company created by the government of Montenegro. It is not yet known whether the incident was due to a legal dispute, technical problems, or other reasons. The only known fact is that this happened at the global DNS level, not due to any country's local internet restrictions.
