Iran is the first country to block Starlink satellite internet

Allegedly, receivers intended for the Starlink satellite internet were illegally imported into Iran. The Iranian authorities do not officially recognize this service and consider its use illegal.

According to international monitoring organizations and media sources, during the large-scale internet blockade implemented in the country in recent days, Starlink connections were also severely restricted. It is reported that initially about 30 percent of satellite internet traffic was cut off, and within a few hours this figure rose to over 80 percent.

Experts believe that Iran managed to block satellite internet using military radio-electronic jammer technologies. In this regard, Iran is considered the first country to actually disable a global satellite internet service like Starlink.

According to reports, Starlink was used as an alternative means of communication to the regular internet, which was blocked by the government, especially during protests. However, as a result of disruption of GPS signals and technical interference with satellite terminals, the connection was either completely cut off or became unstable in many regions.

Official Tehran has not yet commented on the issue, and Starlink has not commented on the allegations.
